Topic Overviews & Homework

This Term:

We are learning all about World War 2.  For the first half of the Spring Term, we are learning more about the Home Front and the British response to the war.

The children will be finding out the answers to the following questions (and more!):

- What was life like for an evacuee?

- Who was Winston Churchill?

- What were the causes of the Second World War?

- Which countries were involved in WWII?

- What was rationing and how did it work?

- How did the role of women change during the war?

- What happened at Dunkirk?

Type Day Set Day Due Expectations
Reading Every day Every day Every child should spend an average of 15 minutes reading daily.  We ask that that the book title, page numbers and a small comment are recorded in their home-contact book each day.  They can complete this themselves, we just ask that you check to ensure they are reading each day and sign their book each week to confirm that they have completed their reading.
Maths Every day Every day The children in Kites have all been given a Doodle Maths login, which we encourage them to use to practise every day - they have a 'daily 5' to practise.  This will help them to earn a higher streak and in turn, collect more stars!  Additionally, each Friday we are setting homework through doodle maths based on our classwork that week to reinforce objectives and skills.  Please pop in to see us if you have any questions.
Times Tables Wednesday Wednesday

The children will each be set a times table to practise during the week, ready for a test the following Wednesday.  It is very important that they continue to practise the quick recall of their tables even after they have completed their 12 times table.  Times Tables Rockstars is the recommended way to practise!

Spellings Thursday Thursday Each week, the children will have 10 words to learn based around a theme (e.g. homophones).  They will be tested on these 10 words and will have a 'pot luck' sentence test.  One of the words they have learnt will be worth a bonus point when put into a sentence underneath their test.
Topic/English Friday 10th January Wednesday 25th March The children are invited to bring their topic homework in to show to celebrate with the other children in class.  We can't wait to see the results of the hard work you have put in!
