Modern Foreign Languages

At Watchfield, children are taught to develop an interest in learning other languages in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating. We believe that all children should have the opportunity to learn a foreign language as it is a necessary part of being a member of a multi-cultural society and provides an opening to other cultures.

At Watchfield, our MFL lessons encourage children's curiosity; we aim to use them to deepen their understanding of the big wide world and develop their awareness of how differently people from other cultures may live. Through our MFL lessons, we strive to embed the skills of listening, speaking and reading. These are necessary to enable children to use and apply their language learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning.

At Watchfield, our school serves the world and we are lucky to be able to welcome children from over 50 different countries, speaking over 30 different languages. We celebrate this and utilize the countless opportunities our unique and special community provide us with on a daily basis.
