Welcome

Hello    नस्ते    Hola    السلام عليكم

Welcome to Watchfield!  We are a busy, but very friendly school with lots going on. This website aims to give you a taste of the school, as well as providing regular updated information for both parents and pupils.  However, the only way you can really get a sense of what it is like to be 'a Watchfielder', is to come and visit.

An education here is a truly unique experience. Watchfield is a diverse school; many of our children come from countries all over the world, yet we still maintain the supportive family ethos of a village school, with strong links to the local community.

Our diversity is due to the fact that we are located next to the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom.  Each year, international military children from a large number of different nations join us and stay, on average, for one year. They learn English and, with support, access our whole curriculum during their time here; parents are very often surprised to find that their child has turned into a fluent English speaker after only a few short months!  The benefits this has for both our International and our British children is immense. All of our pupils have the opportunity to rub shoulders with children from right across the world and gain a deeper understanding of other cultures, whilst also developing the key skills of empathy and communication, which will stand them in such good stead in later life.  This year, we have children from 60 different countries, speaking 32 different languages.

In addition to our International military pupils, we have a large number of British military children, who will usually stay between one and three years.  In total, just over half of our school population is from a military background, which means that mobility is extremely high.  It is not unusual for nearly 200 brand new pupils to join Watchfield every September!

Our local families are the cornerstone of our school and we really value the support that parents and carers give.  The gradually increasing number of children who start and finish their primary education with us are provided with the unique opportunity to make new friends from all over the world, many of whom they will keep in contact with for years to come.

I hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find any information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the School Office with any queries you may have.  I look forward to seeing you soon!
