Reception Baseline Assessment

Reception Baseline

All children starting in Reception will be participating in the reception baseline assessment (RBA) within the first 6 weeks of starting reception. The purpose of the assessment is to provide the starting point for a new measure that will help parents understand how well schools support their pupils to progress between reception and year 6 (the end of key stage 2).

It is a short (approximately 20 minutes), practical assessment focusing on their early literacy, communication, language and mathematics skills. A teacher will carry out the assessment one-to-one with each pupil, any time within the first 6 weeks of Reception. It does not require any preparation at home or at school, and will help teachers to understand what their pupils can do at the beginning of their time here at Watchfield School. It is important to note that this is not a pass or fail assessment and the results will not be published. It will be used to inform us of your child’s next steps in learning.
