30.6.17 - This week we have wowed our audiences with amazing performances of 'The Lion King' - It really was super and well done to everyone involved!
At the end of May we all had a 'roaring' time during our Arts Week inspired by the Lion King!
In May, some of us were invited to take part in a Maths quiz at Pinewood School; we were really proud of them!
In April, for our DT project we enjoyed making moving cam toys!
10.3.17 - This week the Year 5 children have had the amazing opportunity to work with Patrick Walls, a stone mason artist, on a community art project, organised by the Vale of the White Horse Parish Council and the Watchfield Parish Council. Each child created their own stone carving. They all worked really hard to develop some excellent new skills and produce some stunning art work! Well done Year 5 and thank you Patrick!

2.2.17 - Today we celebrated 'World Book Day'. We all dressed up as our favourite book characters; there were lots of awesome costumes!
10.2.17 - This week we have been writing exciting adventure stories, inspired by the Tales of Indiana Jones! Today we buddied up with Puffins Class to share and celebrate all of our fantastic writing. We hope we managed to inspire some budding authors!
8.2.17 - STEM WEEK - So far this week: we have made friendship bracelets out of old plastic bags; we have had an exciting sensory visit to the Explorer Dome and we have investigated the food miles from packaging (we calculated that the total food miles would stretch several times around the world!!)
6.2.17 - In DT recently we have been making tote bags out of an old t-shirt. We cut them, tied them, dyed them and appliqued designs on to them. The finished results look absolutely fantastic....the children also found inventive uses for the off-cuts!
Spring Term - This term our new topic will be: 'The Amazing Americas'. This will be a Geography based unit in which the children will be learning about the countries and interesting cultures of North America, South America and Central America. We also look forward to completing some exciting art-work and writing linked with this topic.
13.1.17 - Today we celebrated the end of our topic with a WWII day. The children and staff dressed up in 1940s style and everyone enjoyed taking part in a range of activities, such as: cooking a war time recipe; Lambeth Walk dancing; traditional playground games; listening to and singing along with war-time songs and making their own identity cards and gas masks. The children also had to be on their toes all day in case they heard an air raid siren! In the afternoon, the children enjoyed watching 'Goodnight Mister Tom' and they tucked into carrot cookies that they had made earlier in the day! We all enjoyed the day!
3.11.16 - Parents were welcomed into our classroom this afternoon so that we could share and celebrate the children's homework efforts! Well done Kites; we were so impressed with your creativity and sheer hard work!
20.10.16 - Today Kites were invited to St Andrew's Church, in Shrivenham, to take part in an exciting 'Prayer Space Workshop'. The children enjoyed taking part in a range of practical activities to help them explore and understand how and why Christians pray. We even got to climb the 41 steep steps up the bell tower to have a go at ringing some of the bells. Everyone enjoyed themselves; thank you to Canon Hancock and all at St Andrew's for putting on such a fab experience for the children!
14.10.16 - In our 'Learn 2 Learn' lesson today we took inspiration from one of our Watchfield Wonderbrains: 'Don't Give Up Donald'. We had a go at learning to juggle and, although there were tennis balls flying in all directions, we did not give up and made great progress! Mr Passey also revealed a secret talent: juggling with 4 tennis balls!
5.10.16 - Today we enjoyed practising our tag-rugby skills with Ms Rayden in the sunshine!
30.9.16 - Today we used a free i-pad app called 'Stop Motion' to create our own animations about the big bang theory - watch this space for our final cuts!
28.9.16 - Congratulations to the Kites who were elected as Vice House Captains and School Council Representatives! What fantastic role models - we are all very proud of you!
22.9.16 - Today we used chalk to draw some planet scenes with a 3D effect. They are OUT OF THIS WORLD!
This term, Kites Class will be learning all about Space! Follow us on our journey through the great unknown, exploring the planets and following in the footsteps of the astronauts...to infinity and beyond!!
What a great start to Year 5!
